How to Avoid the Flu this Season
Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended healthy habits to prevent catching the flu. Family physician, Dr. Fouad Aoude, MD weighs in on flu prevention with his own tokens of advice:
Schedule an Appointment for the Influenza Vaccine
Your first line of defense against the flu is getting vaccinated. The most effective way to prevent seasonal flu is to schedule your flu shot appointment as soon as possible. Annually, the seasonal flu vaccine is tailored to meet the most common strains of influenza projected to affect the public. Scheduling an appointment to receive your flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself from contracting the virus!
Feeling Sick? Stay Home!
If possible, Dr. Fouad Aoude, MD strongly encourages you to stay home from work or school when you are sick. Not only will this increase your chances of a speedy recovery, but it will also ensure that you do not spread the illness to others.
Wash Your Hands
In general, keeping your hands clean is an effective way to maintain your good health. During the flu season, washing your hands is more important than ever. Washing your hands often will help protect you from virus-clinging germs and other unhealthy bacteria that can make you sick.
